Eat Your Way to Health…

The weight issue…not being able to workout, the way one is used to, begins to lower the metabolism and gaining weight is much easier. I think all of us “hipsters” can relate.

That said, I learned to adjust my eating habits, which has helped tremendously. Almost 2 years ago I switched to a semi-vegetarian diet…pretty darn close to a mediterranean diet (if you look it up online, you can find info on it, and here’s the link to what the Mayo Clinic has to say about it: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/mediterranean-diet/CL00011).

I east NO land animals…only seafood, eggs, and I also still drink milk (non-fat)…like I said, semi-vegetarian. I eat LOTS…and I am able to because my whole system is processing everything through, vs. eating land animals that just sit and rot in your gut for a few days (sorry to be so desrciptive, but that is truly what is going on…typically 2-4 days to digest, depending on the individual).

I am able to maintain a healthy weight, I eat more proper foods like fruits and veggies (of the amount we are intended to eat vs. the typical American diet) which in turn helps me recover and heal at lightening speeds and energy levels are increased…so when I am not feeling energetic I truly know it is from the hip and NOT from what I have or have not been eating properly.

This is what works for ME. However, I know everyone’s bodies are extremely different…but, it may be worth a shot if you are looking for a way to manage your weight while not being able to get the cardio workouts that are needed for weight maintenance…not to mention a healthy heart, which is another benefit to this type of healthy eating lifestyle.

Now if you looked at the link you may have seen the “red wine” listed…if you read further it states that for SOME people and IF they check with their doctors…but, for those of us who don’t drink (or only do once or twice a year) you shouldn’t start. What good nutrients are in alcohol, anyways?!

I’ll end here with telling you that I look good AND I feel good…yep, still got the whole hip thing going on and been through the washer, so to say…but, that’s ALL I got going on, thanks to a mediterranean style diet.

  1. Great link SHC, thanks! Try having baby weight to loose and being on activity restriction. I’ve always used excersize to give me a few extra calorie allowances…and I just stopped breastfeeding all at the same time so it is very difficult to adjust what I’m used to eating. GOtta work on it though.
