There are two ends of the spectrum in terms of acetabular coverage in the hip joint...one being a lack of coverage (causing dysplasia) and the other being overcoverage (causing impingement). Some people have one issue, some have multiple issues. The focus of this site is on sharing information regarding lack of coverage (causing developmental dysplasia of the hip, or DDH) and on the overcoverage (causing femoroacetabular impingement, or FAI) and other associated diagnoses (i.e. acetabular retroversion, intra-articular problems such as labral tears, and extra-articular problems such as bursitis and snapping hip). The purpose of this site is to promote knowledge and stem discussion on these relatively newly diagnosed areas of "joint preservation" in orthopedics, and for peer support. This site is maintained by a patient and not by a medical professional. It is underscored that the information contained herein should not be deemed a substitute for professional medical care, nor should be considered a diagnosis. Please seek professional medical care for your issues. If you are interested in learning more, please be sure to check the links listed below for a great deal of information, or search below through previous posts. If you are interested in my previous diagnoses and surgeries (7 hip surgeries to date), "Hip Surgeries I've Had" on the tab at the top of the page.
